Strangler Figs is a type of Fig Tree that is found in the Asian Rainforest in South East Asia. There are over 1,000 types of Fig Trees in the world. Strangler Figs are trees that can grow up to 148 feet tall and are home to many birds and animals in the rainforest. This plant has very aggressive growing habits, which helps it survive. The seeds slowly grow at first, getting their food from the sun, rain, and leaf litter. Strangler Fig Trees got their name because they start their life higher up on another tree and grow down to the soil. This helps them get light from the sun and insures survival. Some of these trees can grow roots that are up to 30 feet long, which helps them, get the water they need to make their own food. Strangler Fig Trees are just on type of producer in the Asian Rainforest.
Consumer
The Dawn Bat is a small bat that lives in mangroves in the Asian Rainforest. They have small pointed ears and round small eyes. Their fur is dark brown and black. They have long tongues so that they can easily get into flowers to find nectar or pollen. Bananas, peaches, avocados, kapok, hemp, and latex are some other plants that the Dawn Bat uses for pollination and eating. Mangrove swamps where Mangrove Apples are found are being filled up with new houses, which is taking away one of the bats main food sources. The Dawn Bats are one of the forest’s main pollinators and the forest needs them to keep pollinating. Dawn Bats are one of the smallest consumers in the Asian Rainforest, but plays a big role.
Decomposer
